Fashion : Skirts in the winter
Skirts in the winter weather seems something only the fashion-over-comfort people would get away with, or it is simply a myth. However, it doesn’t always have to be that way. Wearing jeans until you’re sick of the sight of denim is not how every winter should be spent. Instead, swap out the jeans for a thick pair of tights and take a dive into your variety of (maybe unworn, maybe even they still have the tags on) skirts within your wardrobe.
In this outfit, I’ve gone for a classic black turtleneck (no they are not out of fashion, ever) and a twist on the usual midi skirt for a pleated one instead. The white stripe detail on the hem gives the outfit a centre of attention to spice up the all black (sometimes dull) outfit. The thick denier tights for only a couple of pounds from Primark help to keep your legs warm in the harsh days; if you easily catch the cold you can of course wear some cosy socks over your tights, I promise it is no crime!
I did pair the outfit with a pair of heeled boots (New Look £19.99) which with its ‘sock’ detailing on the top helps for a less chunkier ankle than your regular heeled boot, which is perfect for tights (or tight jeans, if this hasn’t persuaded you enough to give the skirt in winter a go, either way, they are a winner).
However, my favourite pairing is these Shelly’s shoes (£30). The platform dolly shoes give a girly yet edgy look; along with the white stripe detail complementing the white stripe detailed pleated skirt. The look is topped off with a fashionable yet so warm ‘Teddy coat’ from New Look (£29.99) in a warm chocolate brown helps to give warmth to the outfit without breaking the coolness of the all black attire.
Of course, with such a versatile outfit, you could swap the cute coat for an edgy leather jacket, of any colour of your preference, and the shoes for a pair of timberland boots, knee high boots or hi top converse if boots and shoes just are not for you.
Dare to wear a skirt yet?
