Milton Keynes Expand With 20,000 New Homes In The Pipeline
Milton Keynes is the sixth fastest growing local authority outside of London. In 1967, the population of Milton Keynes was 60,000 people. By 2026, the population is estimated to expand to over 300,000 residents. It’s no surprise then that there are an estimated 20,000 additional homes that have been granted planning and development permission by Milton Keynes Council.
West Milton Keynes, which covers west of Watling Street, between Stony Stratford, Kiln Farm, Two Mile Ash, Crownhill and Grange Farm, is going to be home to the largest housing development, with 6,000 new homes planned for the area, Whitehouse, which will have 4,400 dwellings and Fairfield’s, which will have 2,200.
Central Milton Keynes (CMK) will also see new developments over the new few years, with 4,000 new homes in the planning and construction stages to compliment the vast amount of shops, restaurants and businesses stretching from the railway station to the Grand Union Canal.
Plans are also in place for East Milton Keynes (Broughton Gate and Brooklands) which will have an additional 4,000 homes, most of which are largely complete. Brooklands Square, at the heart of the new community, will have a large new health centre that’s due to open this year, as well as a new secondary school which will have its first intake of students this September.
As of November of last year, various developers were in the process of applying for planning permission to develop the site north of Wavendon and south of the A421, which will be developed for around 3,000 homes, as well as community facilities, schools and recreational spaces.
As well as new housing developments, we can also expect to see improvements to the pedestrian and cycle links that connect Bletchley town centre and the railway station, as well as improvements to the Kingston Roundabout that hopes to reduce congestion in the area.
